How Gas Powered Chainsaw Was Linked To Horror Movies

The gas powered chainsaws along with the horror genre may qualify as a match made in heaven. Even so these two forces did not come together until the 1960's. Yet the gas powered chainsaw actually cut its way in to the movie scene in a great way with the Tobe Hooper's release, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Precisely what made this film so successful in this writer's viewpoint is due to two very large things. That combination consisted of an absolutely frightening weapon and an exclusively scary villain. Up until this point the weapon of choice in horror motion pictures was the knife. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre unveiled countless audience into one more illegal utilization for the chainsaw. Compared to a knife the gas powered chain saw is large loud and considerably more intimidating when compared to a mere butcher knife. I could virtually hear that buzzing sound and smell gasoline in the air while creating this and that sound took fear to a whole new height. Up until this point we had always linked that sound with cutting down trees now it took on some other meaning. Before, the only individuals who had something to fear from the chainsaw were the operator and the tree. Secondly, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre successfully made a uniquely scary villain with distinctively terrifying name, Leatherface. Leatherface was not your standard movie villain. His personality was loosely based off an actual serial killer Ed Gein, and he happened to be a somewhat large guy wielding a rather large chainsaw wearing a mask made from human flesh. The Chainsaw literally took the term slasher motion pictures to a brand new gas operated level. Even though the movie only contained one scene depicting the horrific violence and terror in which the chainsaw is employed to cut something other than wood, and that other something was human flesh, one scene happened to be enough. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre spawned multiple sequels and even began a relationship that indelibly connected the gas powered chainsaws to the horror genre.
